Keely Hodgkinson Wraps Up Season with Victorious Performance at Athlos Meet in New York
Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.
The Olympic champion concluded her two-lap campaign with a win at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday night.
{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who earned third place at the World Championships recently, dominated an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a year affected by a hamstring injury.
Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot once more in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I've barely raced this year so it was likely less of a struggle for me to go out there and want to give it something," stated the 23-year-old.
"The atmosphere at the event is crazy so it was really, really fun."
The women-only event packed the stadium in its second edition, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns replacing standard medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to award the victors with their tiaras.
Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.
The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, finishing in 4:17.78.
American Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, won the sprint double.
